When you think of the Coachella Valley, what comes to mind? We’re guessing it is Palm Springs. Mid-century homes, stylish hotels, year-round sunshine, celebrity sightings, famous festivals, and beautiful mountains are why we love this city, but did you know that the Coachella Valley has 9 cities that make up this desert oasis? Today we break down the 8 other amazing cities in the valley!
Located in the heart of the Coachella Valley, Palm Desert is an epicenter of shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and recreation. The area was first known as Old MacDonald Ranch but changed to Palm Village in the 1920s when date palms were planted. Today, it attracts many of Coachella Valley’s full-time residents with homes suited for all income levels. You can catch a performance at the renowned McCallum Theatre, feed the giraffes at The Living Desert Zoo, and explore local artists in the famed El Paseo Shopping District. Not to mention, the most popular hike in The Coachella Valley is located here! Soak in a panoramic view of the valley on the Bump and Grind Trail.
Dubbed “The Gem of the Desert”, the natural backdrop of the Santa Rosa Mountains gives this city a charm unlike anywhere else in the valley. Sip on an IPA at La Quinta Brewing Company, walk down the cobblestone streets of Old Town, or shop for hand-crafted artwork during Art on Main Street. The world-famous PGA WEST calls this city home, making La Quinta a golfer’s paradise! Housing of any price range can be found here.
One of the most affordable cities in the area, this city has family at the heart of everything. Catch the latest feature film at Mary Pickford’s, enjoy public art at The Fountain of Life Statue, or taste Mexican-inspired ice cream from La Michoacana Ice Cream Parlor.
World-class golf resorts, exclusive country clubs, and luxurious homes are the defining features of this elite city, so it’s no wonder this city is called the “Playground of the Presidents. Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, and Barack Obama have all come to unwind here, and many old-time celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin have called this place home. You can zip down a 100-foot water slide at Omni Rancho Las Palmas, walk the estates of Sunnylands, and enjoy waterfront entertainment at The River. Golf enthusiasts might find this place familiar, as Rancho Mirage has hosted coveted tournaments like The Ryder Cup, PGA Tour, and LPGA Tour.
When it comes to tennis, Indian Wells takes the cake in the Greater Palm Springs area. This city is home to the world-famous BNP Paribas Open, and players of any skill level can practice their swing at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. If you seek a top-tier home or a champagne balloon ride, this city is the spot for you!
One of the fastest-growing cities in the Coachella Valley, the “City Of Eternal Sunshine” offers the lowest home prices here in the desert. Only 10 miles from Coachella, you will find the Salton Sea! Rich in Hispanic heritage, taste some of the best Mexican cuisines in Southern California at restaurants like Jalisco and El Tranvia.
Desert Hot Springs
If you seek affordable living and a relaxing place to call home, Desert Hot Springs is your spot. The Spa City is home to one of the most significant mineral aquifers in the world, producing more than 20 hot and cold natural mineral springs in town. If you need a bit of relaxation, head to boutique hotels like Two Bunch Palms and The Springs Resort and Spa, which feature their own mineral pools. Not to mention, history buffs will find one of the oldest adobe-style buildings in Southern California at Cabot’s Pueblo Museum. Desert Hot Springs is truly your natural oasis destination!
Thanks to the famous Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival, you’ve most likely heard of Indio. Known as “The City of Festivals,” this city has become a favorite for those seeking food, music, and entertainment.
